How do you handle an aging workforce dilemma? That is the question facing the oil and gas industry at the moment. All of this came about because of the loss of confidence in the industry during the Eighties. It is a problem that is going to come home to roost within a few years unless they can carry out some heavy duty recruiting here and now.

Due to this lack of recruitment, the average age of the Oil worker is 50. it is a dilemma that not many human resource managers would want to have on their to-do list

Quite unexpectedly though, university entrants have been moving towards the geo-sciences and away from the computer science courses as that industry suffers from saturation. This is the answer to the prayers of the petrochem industry.

High level qualifications are not the only way into the industry though, for those less qualified there is a still a pathway to a good wage.

Those that join from a lower qualification level can be trained on the job and in the classroom, and are able to see a clear employment road in front of them.

Positions for the industry are available in refining, production, administration transport, and various supervisory and technical. most people when they think of the industry think of someone covered in oil or with the waves beating against them as they struggle to connect pipework

While that is still the case for rig workers, the industry employs people in far more diverse jobs than that. Admin clerical, procurement, engineers, physicists, all are needed for the growing petrochemical industry.

New recruits come from many different employ, many come to the industry to change career, many ex armed forces fit nicely there. The best way to find out if you are suited is to submit your employment history Cv, and take a look at what is offered. Specialist recruitment companies operate in the oil and gas jobs arena, and they will advise you of potential employment and earnings.
