Interested in being an electrician? The salary is not that bad and the work is very challenging. You'll be able to live comfortably as an electrician as long as you make the right decisions. Salaries of electricians vary from country to country and state to state. Employers also pay their electricians differently. Whoever the employer though, you can expect a higher than average salary as an electrician.

If you want to have an idea how much an electrician earns, here are some things you should do.

Electricians are professionals. Be prepared to spend three to five years of training and internship. This profession requires you to also take a test for your license.

After you complete your training and once you get your license, it is highly probable that you have to start with hourly wages instead of monthly salaries.

Get to know some electricians. If you even have friends who are electricians, even better. Ask them some information about the nature of their work. Ask about how they are getting paid and the additional benefits they get. Do not forget also to ask about their working hours.

Being an electrician has its challenges. Be prepared to work in construction sites and other harsh working environments.

You may also consider being self-employed. A lot of electricians today are self-employed. The only problem with this option is that you don't get benefits like insurance and health care. It's advisable to do so some research to further your knowledge about the matter.

Go online and check the Internet for the salary ranges of electricians. There are several websites that provide this kind of information.

You can also contact the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) for more detailed information. They can provide you with some advice and tips about salaries and benefits of their members.

Keep in mind that this kind of work exposes you to many hazards. There are even times when you have to do pretty dangerous things. You must always observe the necessary precautions while working as an electrician.
