A job interview is a most important part of everyone's life and it must be taken seriously, as it can alter your life. A successful interview for a desirable job can make your dreams come true, but if it is not taken seriously, you may lose that job and you will have to go in search of a job once more. Research has shown that a great number of today's youth is unsure of what they should take to a job interview. Here are some suggestions as to the bare essentials you should consider:

Take something that will keep you occupied. For some people this will be a novel, for others it may be a magazine or even a joke book. This will help to relieve any tension and something humorous may even lighten your mood. Some people become worried unnecessarily about the interview and stress themselves, sometimes to the point of making themselves sick.

Tension can lead to symptoms such as a headache or stomach upset, so ensure that you have some "emergency" medication with you to keep a check on any problems instance, aspirin or other analgesics for headaches and antacids for the stomach. Bring some chocolate or some any other high sugar snack that is small enough to finish in a few bites and is easily digested. Eat these snacks if you have not had a proper meal as a stop gap. Do not chew gum or have coffee or soft drinks and avoid cigarettes. If you have a mobile phone, switch it off and there is really no need to bring other electronic gadgets such as i pods to the interview.

Bring your own supply of tissues to the interview. If you need to stay in a hotel for a job interview it is vital that you bring the necessary clothes in which you feel comfortable. Women should carry an additional pair of pantyhose in case of laddering. You should also bring a pair of shoes that are extremely comfortable to wear, are clean and well polished. Shoes should preferably be black.

Bring some extra copies of your resume in the event that the company asks for extra copies. It is extremely important that do not forget to bring all the necessary documents that you have to present during an interview. These documents would usually include your most recent qualification certificate and a birth certificate or proof of age. If you have worked previously in another company, you should bring proof of this position with you.

Bring any references from colleagues and previous employers that you feel are necessary. It is highly recommended that you also bring a briefcase to your job interview. It will give you a professional and elegant look and has the added bonus of being a safe place to store your important documents neatly. Include some paper and writing equipment in the briefcase and a job skills portfolio is it is applicable to your profession or work samples if they are relevant. You can also carry a breath freshener such as mints to ensure that your breath is sweet. Knowing that your breath is fresh will add to your confidence levels and you will be able to speak without any worries.
