Do not just sit near the phone expecting the interviewer to offer you the position and under no circumstances should you call the interviewer back immediately to find out the result. This is poor etiquette! Rather, once you have had the interview, it is entirely appropriate to send a thank you note to the company, expressing your gratitude towards the company?s representatives for giving you an opportunity to showcase your talents and making this experience a fruitful one. It is acceptable for you to restate your desire to gain employment with the company in the body of the thank you letter and show that you are waiting positively to hear some good news from them as soon as it is possible. If there were a number of people involved in the interview then it is proper etiquette to send a thank you letter to each one of them.

If you have not had any notification from the interviewer or the company after approximately two weeks from the date of your interview it would be a good idea to send them an email or call the interviewer and find out if there has been a decision. If a decision is still pending then it is perfectly acceptable for you to ask the interviewer as to when the decision will be finalized. If it has already been finalized and not in your favor then politely ask the interviewer the reason for the rejection. Make the effort to find out exactly where your weaknesses were in this particular interview as this will be of assistance to you in future interviews.

If after a period of around two weeks you have not had any response from the interviewer it would be acceptable to send an email or call them to enquire about the status of the position. If a decision is still pending, you may politely ask the interviewer as to when the decision is to be finalized. If the decision is finalized already and your application has been rejected then it is quite ok to ask the interviewer the reason for the rejection. Endeavor to get the exact feedback from the employer as this may well improve your chances of selection at the next interview. It is always advisable to listen to and act accordingly in response to constructive criticism.

After the initial interview, many organizations choose to have a second interview with the better applicants. It is entirely appropriate to express your pleasure at being chosen for the second interview. Request through email or phone the format of the second interview and ask the location and time of the second interview if this has not already been supplied.

You may be called for a second interview as many organizations have these to decide between the ?finalists?. By all means, express your pleasure, in a dignified manner, at being chosen for this second interview. Enquire regarding the format of the interview and the time and place where it is to be conducted. It is also advisable to ask for the name of the interviewer and what position they hold in the company and, should the interview be arranged for a location some distance away from home, find out the best route. This way you can be sure that you will be on time.

If you are successful in gaining the position in the second interview then do not discuss the possible salary with the employer. This is not appropriate and may result in the employer changing their mind. If you are successful it is appropriate to enquire about the rules and regulations of the company, their dress code and your leave conditions.
